Our Story

Two Freds Are Better Than One

• • • • • • • •
Fred62 is named for founders/partners Chef Fred Eric (the culinary mastermind behind the restaurant's most iconic menu items), and Fred Sutherland, who designed the space with Chef Eric both of whom were born in 1962 (it was a very good year). Venture outside, and you'll see the words, "Two Fred's Are Better Than One" inscribed in Olde English Gothic-style lettering on the side of the building.

The Un-Diner Diner

From the beginning, the Freds knew they wanted Fred62 to be a classic American diner. The vintage leather booths, counter seating and Atomic-era accents are all unapologetically retro and if it stopped there, Fred62 would be just another nostalgia-themed eatery. As any skilled chef knows, the right seasoning can elevate a dish and make it memorable. In Fred62's case, that "seasoning" includes original Wayne White paintings with his signature style and off-kilter humor; a nook with a Space Age television set; kooky orb lights; walls studded with framed paintings of celebrities; and a collection of oddities and novelties scattered around just for fun.

Can You Smell What The Chef Is Cookin'?

So you're lovin' our cozy everything-old-is-cool-again vibe. But what about the food? Decor aside, it's our stellar menu that brings our customers back year after year. As you can guess, Chef Fred is the culinary wiz behind Fred62's menu and creator of our most requested signature dishes -- everything from the ooey-gooey goodness of our Mac n' Cheese Balls to the spicy kick of our F-Bomb Sauce. We've PERFECTED the Burger-Fries-Onion Rings combo (in both meat-lovers and vegan/vegetarian versions). Sure, our Build-Your-Own Milkshakes are mind-blowing. Much-loved as these are, if we'd stopped there ... well, you get the idea. Fred62 is here to satisfy those 3 a.m. cravings and your every-meal desire for something out of the ordinary.
Hungry for a steaming hot bowl of ramen in a rich, slow-simmered shoyu broth? Yeah, we got that. Chef Fred studied many years in Japan to master the art of preparing ramen, and his two takes on this nourishing classic meal -- Uncle Sam's Shoyu Turkey Ramen and it's vivacious counterpart, Aunty Idy's VEGAN Ramen -- are both available for your enjoyment. Noods not ya thang? No worries. How about some traditional Shakshuka Eggs (cooked in a cast-iron skillet, of course!) with Castillan sausage and Moroccan tomato sauce? Or a tasty Smoked Brisket Hash with poached eggs and chili hollandaise?
That's not all. Early riser? Come in for our freshly-made-when-you-order-it Sunrise Specials for an early-morning Breakfast treat. Once lunchtime rolls around, you can indulge in Burgers (meaty and meaty-free) from the Burger Bar; Sandwiches (The Sandwich Shop); Wraps (Lunch Faves), Bites (Shareable Snacks), and lots more.
